STAR4 - the 4th Shanghai-Tokyo Advanced Research (STAR4) Symposium on Ultrafast Intense Laser Science was held on May 8-10, 2013 at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Shanghai, China. STAR4 is composed of 19 invited talks and 8 posters.

STAR is a symposium series launched by the research teams in the universities and institutions in Shanghai and Tokyo to provide a forum to review the most important research progress, to exchange the updated technical information, to promote the advanced research activities, and to grasp the potential collaboration opportunities in the field of ultrafast intense laser science.

The aim of STAR is to share together with the latest research achievements between the two cities among the research groups in Tokyo at The University of Tokyo, RIKEN, Keio University, the University of Electro-Communications, and Tokyo Institute of Technology and the research groups in Shanghai at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University，Fudan University，Tongji University，and East China University of Science and Technology.
