Prof. Nasr Hafiz from ELI-ALPS visited SIOM

Update time: 2020-11-18

As the visiting scientist under the CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) for 2020, Prof. Nasr Hafiz gave a talk entitled by “Recent Advances on Plasma Wakefield Acceleration of Electrons and the Generation of Secondary Particles and Radiation” on 11th September, 2020 at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The Vice Director, Prof. Yuxin Leng attended the meeting. Prof. Xinglong Xie from National Laboratory on High Power Laser and Physics presided over the meeting.

On behalf of CAS, Prof. Leng awarded Prof. Nasr the PIFI certification. Prof. Leng expressed that Prof. Nasr may have good collaboration and good work at SIOM.

Prof. Nasr’s talk focused on his group’s latest research subjects including the two-color laser plasma acceleration, self-truncated ionization injection, generation of ultrahigh-energy positron beams using the dual-color laser pulses scheme, etc. He also presented his group’s latest work on betatron X-ray generation and ways to enhance the X-ray photon flux by several orders of magnitude for biological, agricultural, and scientific applications including imaging and micro-computed tomography. Also, he presented his group’s ongoing work on the betatron-X ray beamlines development for external users at ELI-ALPS Research Institute in Hungary.

Nasr Hafz is an Egyptian physicist who received his Ph.D. in Engineering “Quantum Engineering and Systems Science” from the University of Tokyo in 2001. From 2011 to mid-2018, he was a Tenure-track faculty with the Department of Physics and Astronomy of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Since Sep. 2018 he is a Leading Scientist and Leader of the Electron Acceleration Group at ELI-ALPS, Hungary. His main task at ELI-ALPS within the new few years is to establish two high-repetition rate (10 Hz and 1 kHz) laser accelerator beamlines based on ELI’s unique laser systems for applications in science and technology.
