My work in China began in July 2017 in Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics situated in Jiading, very green, beautiful and quiet part of Shanghai city. Since the research topic concerns special optical features of nanostructures, their study involved many methods of material preparation, characterization and optical probing. I met a cohesive team of scientists performing together investigations of two-dimensional nanostructures and development of new nonlinear optical materials and devices for optical information, telecommunication and lasers. I saw many young researchers, master and PhD students working with enthusiasm on the projects.
In the lab I could freely use the chemical facilities like ultrasound dispergators, centrifuge, CVD chambers etc. to prepare my samples, obtaining all necessary materials very quickly on demand. Luminescence and Raman spectroscopy, optical and AFM microscopy, nano- and femto-second Z-scan and pump-probe techniques were available at any time. I found a comfortable library with full access to the Web of Science system with availability of a great majority of modern scientific periodicals. The internet search possibility was however limited by Google search blocking that didn’t allow to get access to some specific scientific sources like foreign patents and state and commercial investigation reports.
I have also visited research laboratories and resource centers of Suzhou University, Suzhou Institute of Nano-Technology and Nano-Bionics with a big Nano Fabrication facility, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Jiang Tong University and found many sound scholars working on their original and interesting projects and open to collaboration. Laboratories equipped with unique and actual techniques allow performing breakthrough research and designing work.
During my stay in China I knew and appreciated Chinese live and culture, nature as well as urban infrastructure, architecture, transport and communication tools that make live here very easy and comfortable. Together with a great scientific potential collected it is making desirable and full of opportunities for people from around the world to work and gain many new scientific, technical and technological achievements for the human progress. I would like to have more chances to do my part in this cause here.
